The first performance in a newly-renovated church was well-received by an audience of more than 100 people.

The Kirk Michael Chamber Orchestra performed an evening of classical music, entitled ’A Musical Journey Through Time’, at the Lezayre Church and Northern Arts Centre on Saturday evening.

The concert featured music by Mozart, Rossini and Puccini amongst others, as well as ’Adagio for Strings’ by Barber, and a humerous take on the ’Dr Who’ theme tune as an encore.

Audience member Mandy Griffin said that there were many highlights throughout the evening and the venue complemented the music perfectly.

’Highlights of the evening were a superb "Concerto for Recorder and Flute" by Telemann played with skill, sensitivity and musical intelligence by Karen Field and Amoré du Plessis respectively on the solo instruments, backed by subtle playing from the orchestra who never overwhelmed the soloists,’ said Mandy.

’They were all played with a keen attention to detail and assisted by the excellent acoustic of the church.

’Lezayre Church provided an excellent venue and it is hoped that more groups will use this as a performance space in the future.’
