Ramsey theatre group Cloideryn has announced its upcoming productions for the year.
It all kicks off on August 17 and 18 when the group will be taking the audience back in time as they transform St Paul’s Hall into an air raid shelter complete with sirens, sandbags, blackout windows and everything you would have expected to see during the dark days of the Second World War.
There will even be war time posters lining the walls and wartime Women’s Institute stall.
Audience members are also invited to dress up in World War II costumes - there will be a prize for the best - and soak up the atmosphere as they enjoy some wartime entertainment.
Cloideryn will be revisiting acts popular at the time including Flanagan and Allen, The Crazy Gang, Vera Lynn and Glen Miller. There will also be sketches by children and adults and singalong singsong.
The audience will be seated at tables with a sausage and mash supper laid on in the interval. There will also be plenty of room for couples to get up and dance if they want to. There will be a raffle in aid of local British Legion who are providing the bunting and other memorabilia.
Director Carol Frazer said: ’The idea is to immerse everyone in a unique wartime experience until the all-clear sounds and they can go home.’
Carol will also be directing the group’s other show, The Sound of Music, which they have obtained a licence to perform in November.
This is the first licence issued following the conclusion of the professional tour in the UK.
She explained: ’With the kids we’ve got I felt we just had to do The Sound of Music and we were so lucky to get the licence. It’s really exciting for us. We have a great group and the kids are amazing - they do everything I ask of them.’
Cloideryn will be holding open auditions for The Sound of Music on June 23 for all the characters and rehearsals will start in July.
