A community initiative led by the Co-op store is aiming to renovate the Royal British Legion garden in Port Erin.
The store is keen on encouraging involvement in community projects and when employee Dave Oddy, who is deputy manager at the Port Erin branch, saw the neglected state of the memorial garden, which is off Droghadfayle Road, he thought it would be a suitable candidate.
’The Co-op gives back to the community, each store is encouraged to be involved,’ he said.
’It is 30 years since it was renovated, with the average age of members of the British Legion, it is hard to upkeep.’
So far there has been offers of support - awareness has been raised through Facebook - from organisations such as scouts and beavers and local businesses.
Given the scale of the project, Dave would love to hear from as many people as possible willing to dig deep - in pockets and earth.
To get involved, contact the store in Port Erin and ask for Tim or Dave.
