One of the original voices behind what became known as ’alternative comedy’ is back out on the road and is heading to the Isle of Man.
Ben Elton has announced his first stand-up comedy tour for 15 years, and is set to perform for one night at the Villa Marina on Wednesday, December 11.
Elton is a multi-faceted comedian, writer, playwright, television and screen writer, lyricist, theatre, screen and TV director and performer.
He first appeared in the nation’s consciousness as a member of the new wave of politically-motivated, alternative comedians, alongside the likes of contemporaries Stephen Fry, Harry Enfield, French and Saunders, Alexi Sayle and Hugh Laurie.
This led him to become the creative force behind many of television’s most classic comedy shows.
He teamed up with Adrian Edmondson and Rik Mayall to help create the Young Ones.
He also teamed up with Richard Curtis to write the Blackadder series, starring Rowan Atkinson.
Now, back on the road with an all-new stand-up show, after a 15 year absence from the stand-up circuit, Ben promises to try to make sense of a world which appears to have gone stark raving mad.
’The last time I toured I was still smarter than my phone,’ he said.
’Things have definitely taken a funny turn.’
Tickets for Ben Elton are £30, available online from villagaiety.com
