The pros and cons of giving planning approval for the conversion of a four-storey Victorian property into six flats were discussed by Ramsey Commissioners at their monthly meeting.

Discussion centred on an application for conversion of Glenville, Ballure Road for Elliot Construction Ltd. Approval granted in 2006 has expired.

The lead member for works and development, Ffinlo Williams, recommended that the board lodge an objection on grounds that the proposal did not meet current parking requirements, but Juan McGuinness disagreed, saying owners of such properties should be supported in giving them a new lease of life, rather than encouraging them to become empty and redundant.

Members sided with Mr McGuinness and voted not to raise an objection.
