With just a few weeks of the current board’s tenure left, Ramsey Commissioners have deferred a final decision on the Department of Infrastructure’s flood protection/quayside redevelopment scheme to their successors.

The board has spent many months consulting with the department about the scheme, with some members remaining resolutely opposed.

At the June board meeting, Michelle Quayle said: ’I think we should make a decision, having brought it this far.’

BBut Juan McGuinness proposed a deferment:

’It’s an absolute shambles,’ he stated. ’I don’t have any faith in the DoI to deliver this scheme. I propose we leave it to the new board.’

His proposal was adopted, with just Mrs Quayle voting against.

The local authority general election will take place on Thursday, July 22.

The closing date for the delivery of nomination papers is Tuesday, June 29.

Every seat on all 21 of the island’s local authorities is up for grabs.
