Plans to open a Peri Peri Chicken Victoria Grill restaurant and takeaway in Ballasalla have provoked several concerns from Malew Parish Commissioners.
The proposal (18/00896/B) is for alterations in connection with a change of use from the village’s empty branch of the Isle of Man Bank to a restaurant and takeaway.
Peri Peri Chicken Victoria Grill also operates a restaurant and takeaway in Douglas.
At yesterday’s meeting (Wednesday), the authority raised issues about foul drainage, which goes across two neighbouring properties’ gardens and whether it is adequate given the increasing usage.
Commissioners also had concerns about the noise, smell and rubbish generated and noted there is no bin store on the plan.
They felt all these issues can be addressed by the applicant.
Although there is parking in front of the building, they are worried about increased traffic and cars reversing onto a main road.
The plan said staff would use public transport to get there, but commissioners questioned how that could be enforced.
Commissioners living near the proposal declared an interest and took no part in the discussion.
Planners also received several letters of objection from neighbours.
