Rmsey Commissioners are thinking about organising a street party in June to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The idea was put to the board by member Steve Kelly, who said it was something the whole town could be involved in. He then invited Geoff Court, chairman of the parks and leisure committee to elaborate.

Mr Court said it was early days but the plan was to hold the event in TT Practice Week, to liaise with the shopkeepers and close the length of Parliament Street.

Various section of the street could be dedicated to different decades of the Queen’s reign, culminating in live music at the Courthouse.

Juan McGuinness, who organises Sprint Fest in Market Square during TT fortnight was in favour, as long as it did not put an unacceptable burden on staffing resources.

The idea was taken up with enthusiasm by the members, who gave the go-ahead to Messrs Kelly and Court to pursue the matter further.
