Rachel Glover narrowly missed out on a top-10 finish in the women’s 50m rifle 3 Positions event at the Commonwealth Games on Friday.

Competing at the Belmont Shooting Centre, the Manx athlete was three shots short of qualification for the finals with her score of 570, having notched 193 in kneeling, 196 in prone and 181 in standing.

She finished 11th, two places in front of team-mate Gemma Kermode who scored 559 after shooting 192 (kneeling), 191 (prone) and 174 (standing).

The previous day (Thursday), Glover was in fine form as she claimed an impressive sixth place finish in the women’s 50m rifle prone final.

The 37-year-old produced a series of 104.1, 102.7, 99.7, 102.6, 104.0, 102.3 for a total score of 615.4 which was enough for sixth place.

In the same event, team-mate Kermode shot 96.0, 96.6, 101.0, 99.7, 98.3, 97.4 for a total of 589.0 to claim 19th place overall.

Dave ’Wilfy’ Walton and Neil Parsons shot in the men’s Olympic Trap at the same venue on Friday.

Wilfy, a bronze medallist in the team trap competition in 2006, finished 14th with a score of 45, while Parsons was 20th (mid-pack in a field of 40 shooters) with 43.

The Manx duo will continue with the second day of qualification and a possible final tomorrow (Saturday).
