Island badminton star Jessica Li suffered a disappointing end to her Commonwealth Games on Thursday when she was forced to retire injured.
The 20-year-old Island Games medallist had progressed further than any of her team-mates by reaching the last 16 round of the women’s singles competition, having beaten Zambia’s Ogar Siamupangila 21-9, 21-13 in the previous round.
In her last-16 clash she went up against Indian second seed Saina Nehwal but it proved to be a short match as she sprained her ankle.
Clearly struggling with injury, Li lost the opening game 4-21 but battled on valiantly before eventually retiring in the second to bring an end to her involvment in the Games .
