Douglas Council this week voted to confirm the provisional dates of its community events for 2020.

The events, ranging from fun days to Remembrance Sunday, are held throughout the island’s capital, and are organised ’for the benefit of residents’.

While it is not certain that all the events will be budgeted for, the council’s regeneration and community committee decided that it is necessary to fix provisional dates to enable preliminary planning.

Throughout 2020, the council will host a D-Day commemoration on Saturday, June 6. This coincides with the 76th anniversary of the Normandy landings.

Other events include: Civic Sunday on Sunday, June 14; Noble’s Park Fun Day on Saturday, August 1; Fireworks on Thursday November 5 or Friday November 6; Remembrance Sunday on November 8.

The Christmas lights switch on, which is set for November 19 and marks the first evening of late night shopping will go ahead. But it is not yet known what form the event will take.

And this year will continue to see the omission of Douglas Carnival, which is set to return once the promenade scheme is finished.
