I would like to nominate Alison Donnell, who is my son Thomas’s special educational needs teacher.

My son Thomas has autism and behavioural needs. Because of his special needs and vulnerability he really struggles out of routine.

He has to be kept home as this is safest for all concerned. He struggles to do school work at home.

But with Alison’s help he is managing to do his core lessons. Her constant supportive emails are helping to keep us all going.

Whenever Thomas has issues with any work she’s quick to coordinate with his lesson teachers and help find solutions. I cannot thank her enough for all her help and support. We would be a mess without her. She is our hero!!

Susanne Unsworth

Please can we nominate all the staff at Thie Milan Community House in Douglas. They’ve all gone over and above to keep everyone in the house healthy, occupied and happy throughout the Covid lockdown. They are all awesome.

Fran and Adrian Tinkler

A big shout out and thank you to the Noble’s pharmacy and the St John Ambulance volunteers. I normally have to collect my MS medication prescriptions from the pharmacy at Noble’s monthly. As I have received a shielding letter the pharmacy arranged for my meds to be safely delivered by St John Ambulance. Thank you.

Big shout out to the girls on the welcome desk at Lloyds bank on Prospect Hill. My mum went there last week as she had an issue with her bank card. She is 85 and would have found it difficult to sort on the phone.

No queue to get in and the staff were really helpful and friendly. They sorted out everything for her and when she thanked them for their help, they assured her that was what they were there for and to never hesitate to come in and ask for their help.

She was really happy with the help they gave her and with how friendly and reassuring they were.

Big shout out to Manx Gas. They come in for a lot of criticism at times but today they provided an excellent service. I woke up this morning to no hot water and a minor fault on my new boiler. The boiler is due its first service but in the grand scheme of things not that important and could have waited a little longer. However, I called Manx Gas at 9am to report the fault. By 9.50am I had an engineer at my home who not only fixed the fault but serviced the boiler as well.

All completed by 10.50am and we have hot water again. Excellent customer service, social distancing respected and PPE worn.

Just want to say a huge thank you to Sue Biggart, children’s community nurse. Our 21 month old daughter has an ongoing issue and unfortunately, due to the lockdown all her appointments were cancelled which meant investigations were put on hold. Sue has been contacting us and checking in.

After concerns yesterday, Sue and Dr Jospeh arranged a home visit for Sue to give Freya some treatment. A couple of hours later and Sue was here, after her shift had finished! Sue was amazing, professional and put us all at ease with her bubbly personality.

Today, Sue arrived again but this time with a little gift for Freya to hopefully distract her from the PPE (for a 21 month old us all in PPE and a nurse giving her treatment isn’t the best combination). This helped calm her down and helped distract her from the discomfort and pain once Sue had left. Thank you so much Sue. You are a truly wonderful nurse and have really helped us knowing you are just at the other end of the phone.

I would like to nominate The Strang Stores for their delivery service. They go out of their way to see that they can always deliver what as been asked for , even if items not available with the morning delivery making a special journey later in the day.

Margaret Homer

Is there any way of putting a shout out to one of the best mental health nurses around Paula Dunlop? Paula always goes above and beyond and doesn’t get the recognition she deserves.

She really is a hero. She has truly saved my life and continues to do so; a true star and credit to the mental health team! It’s not just me she has helped, however as she is now only part-time and not my nurse, Paula still continues with care for the team for me during this difficult time. Absolutely amazing lady, wish there was more like her

I nominate clinical nurse specialist Ellen Grey from Noble’s rheumatology dept.

Ellen has been a vital lifeline, not just now during the crisis but from diagnosis to treatment and ongoing checkups. Ellen always responds quickly with warmth, understanding and compassion to queries and concerns, ensuring that us patients feel safe under her medical care.

AMY FISHER

Can we give a shout out to Julie, Dalia Everden and their team at Laxey Beach Stop Cafe, they have been busy, none stop baking & delivering amazing homemade cakes.

SHIRLEY

I would like to nominate Lauren Pollard at Coop Ramsey. Lauren started just before the pandemic and has taken it in her stride. She even missed her holiday. Over the past year the new people that have joined makes shopping fun instead of some who cannot break a smile. This is great for Coop moving forward but especially wanted to mention Lauren
