London organist and composer Paul Ayres will be performing in Ramsey on Friday.

Mr Ayres, who was born in Perivale, West London, studied music at Oxford University, and now works freelance as a composer, arranger, choral conductor, musical director, organist and accompanist.

His concert will be at St Paul’s Church in Ramsey and will include Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks, as well as the Arrival and Departure of the Queen of Sheba and music by organ composer Dietrich Buxtehude.

He has received more than 100 commissions, and his works have been awarded composition prizes in Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, the UK and the USA.

He particularly enjoys re-composing classical works by famous composers such as Purcell, Bach, Handel and Fauré, and ’classicising’ pop music such as jazz, show tunes and The Beatles. Friday’s programme will also include a number of examples of this, such as Toccatina on Here Comes The Sun - Harrison/Ayres, Adagio Cromatico on Michelle - Lennon/McCartney/Ayres and Concerto on I want to hold your hand - Lennon/McCartney/Ayres.

When not away performing, Mr Ayres accompanies Concordia Voices, and is associate accompanist of Crouch End Festival Chorus.

He has led music education workshops, and acted as piano accompanist for improvised comedy shows and musical theatre. The concert will end with refreshments and a retiring collection.

Parking is available around and in front of the church, which is in St Paul’s Square, Ramsey.
