University College Isle of Man (UCM) has appointed Caroline Walter as employability and skills coordinator to help students prepare to enter the workplace.

The role, which is a new position at UCM, aims to support and help students develop the skills required to achieve a career in their chosen industry, including CV design, interview techniques, and the development of transferable and interpersonal skills for when they enter the workplace. These skills include problem solving, communication, team work, self awareness, and ability to learn.

As part of some courses at UCM, students are required to complete relevant work places and Mrs Walter in her new position will be responsible for supporting those in arranging placements, as well as managing vital relationships with industry contacts alongside the DESC Employability lead.

Mrs Walter said: ‘I’m really excited to have jointed the team at UCM and I’m looking forward to making a difference to the long term prospects of our students. At UCM we pride ourselves on assisting our students to gain the skills they need to transition smoothly into the workplace, so it’s a privilege to be a part of that.’
