The Greta Harding Theatrical Clothing Company has been visiting the island since 1975 seeking to buy good quality vintage clothing and accessories from 1950s or earlier.

In February this year this tunic worn by David Jackson while he was playing Gan in the BBC science fiction series Blake’s Seven was found at a house in Ramsey.

The owner says he bought it in an auction and used it for fancy dress.

Maggie Harding from the company said: ’It was a strange thing to find in Ramsey but now has gone to the Blake’s Seven Fan Club and will be on show at their next Fanzeen Event.

’I know it dates from the 1970s and is a bit later than things I normally buy, but this is a unique piece of TV history so it had to come home with me.’

Another great find was a fine quality naval officer’s frockcoat dating from around 1900. It was bought in Lezayre.

This was sold to Vivienne Westwood to be copied for a pattern to make similar style coats for her winter season range.

Maggie has been working at the Theatrical Clothing Company for more than 30 years.

She said: ’The Isle of Man has always been a treasure trove for us - each time we come we seem to find wonderful items which have been stored for many years.

’The owners are often glad to find a good home for them and someone who appreciates items from a bygone age. For BBC television we are seeking genuine items from 1920s and 1930s for a new series just being filmed to show at Christmas time.

’Pretty chiffon dresses from this era are hard to find as they were delicate fabrics and often got damaged but last year I did find two very good examples. I am also seeking Chinese embroidered shawls as these are getting difficult to find, and I always look for fine lace and trimmings.’

She added: ’If anyone has items to sell they can phone me 07734 798522 to arrange an appointment for me to call or they can meet me at The Palace Hotel by arrangement.’
