A 54-year-old who had previously denied drink-driving and failing to stop after an accident has changed his pleas to guilty.

Philip Scott Nightingale reversed his Mini Countryman into a Ford Transit van, at Masham Court on Victoria Avenue on September 4.

The van driver said that Nightingale then drove off and parked outside his address on Victoria Avenue.

He described the defendant as then staggering into his house.

Police arrested him and a breathalyser test produced a reading of 121, more than triple the 35 limit.

Magistrates ordered a probation report to be prepared, due to the high reading, before sentencing, which will take place on September 10 in summary court.

Bail continues, with a condition not to drive.
