A Ramsey labourer has been fined £350 for being drunk and disorderly after a ’play fight’ went wrong.
Ryan Almond admitted the offence and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.
Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court that police were parked outside Cooil bar on West Quay in Ramsey on December 26 at 11.50pm.
They saw Almond, who lives at Queen’s Drive West, talking to another male.
Police reported that Almond tried to headbutt the man so they intervened and took hold of him.
He was told to go home and walked off towards Market Square. However, shortly afterwards they saw him back in the Cooil bar.
Almond was given a final warning but responded by swearing at police and was subsequently arrested.
Defence advocate Winston Taylor said: ’On the night in question, Mr Almond was out with friends and he went outside for a smoke with a friend.
’He said they were play fighting and messing around. He did make a head gesture but it was not meant in aggression. He was approached by police and asked to leave. He left but went back into the bar to get a friend who was staying with him that night. He accepts he swore.’
Almond was given until March 4 to pay the fine and costs.
