A 31-year-old man has admitted common assault, possessing a kitchen knife, and cannabis possession.

However, Zachary John Morton denied common assault on a female.

The charges relate to an incident on July 2.

Morton, who lives at Castlemona Avenue in Douglas, entered a basis of plea saying that the knife had been in a sock in his backpack, and was used for camping around four months previously.

He said that it had been left in his bag and he had no intent to use it to cause fear or harm.

The defendant was represented in court by advocate Helen Lobb.

A pre-trial review will be held for the denied allegation, in summary court, on September 18.

Bail has been granted.
