A drunk man who stole an electric bicycle has been fined £100 by magistrates.

Robert Dawson, of Stanley View, Douglas, took the bike from a Douglas address, but was later found pushing it in Union Mills.

The bike was stolen on April 10, from a property at Ballabrooie Park, at around 7pm.

Fifty-six-year-old Dawson was described as intoxicated when police found him at 10pm.

He told officers: ‘I only stole it cos I was drunk.’

Dawson told probation that he had drunk six litres of cider prior to the theft, and said he consumed alcohol once a week, usually when he got paid his benefits.

He will pay the fine at a rate of £5 per week, deducted from benefits.
