A 50-year-old Ramsey man has been fined £400 after getting involved in a shop row with another customer.
Simon Brown admitted disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and was also ordered by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes to pay £125 prosecution costs.
Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that, on January 14, Brown entered Ellan Vannin Fuels on Lezayre Road in Ramsey at around 9.45pm.
He was said to be staggering and confronted a male customer in the shop.
Brown, who lives at Pairk Ollay, was said to be shouting at the man so staff pressed their alarm to call the police
Officers arrived 10 minutes later and found Brown still there.
He was described as being unsteady on his feet, slurring his words, and smelling of alcohol, and was subsequently arrested.
Defence advocate James Peterson said: ’Mr Brown accepts being disorderly. He has little memory of what happened but was given the opportunity to view the CCTV footage.
’He has been loud and obnoxious and can only apologise for his actions.’
Mr Peterson said that Brown had been going through a difficult time after a bereavement, and had been drinking shorts on the night of the offence, which he did not normally do.
’He shouldn’t have gone to the garage, he should have taken himself home,’ said the advocate.
Mr Peterson said it had been some time since his client’s last offence and asked the court to treat this as a one-off incident.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes gave Brown until March 11 to pay the fine and costs.
