A 49-year-old man has been fined £550 after a jealous rage sparked an assault.

Douglas Andrew Saxon jumped on his victim and punched him in the back several times.

He admitted common assault and was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that Saxon, who lives at Clifton Terrace in Douglas, was at Jaks bar on Loch Promenade with a man and woman on October 28.

The three left the pub, but as they walked along the promenade, Saxon said ’I’m not happy with this’ and jumped on the man.

The two men fell to the ground and Saxon then began punching him in the back numerous times.

Police arrived and Saxon apologised for the incident saying: ’We’ve had a little disagreement, everything is fine. I’m sorry, please let me go home.’

He was arrested and during an interview at police headquarters Saxon admitted the assault, saying it had been a ’jealous rage’ and he had lost control for 15 to 30 seconds.

Defence advocate Peter Taylor asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and his admissions to police.

’This was jealous rage lasting around 15 seconds,’ said the advocate.

’It appears they have a mutual female friend but on this occasion she was more of a friend to the other man.

’Mr Saxon pushed him and there was a flailing of arms but there were no injuries other than him being pushed to the floor.’

Mr Taylor went on to say that it had been a relatively minor offence.

Magistrates ordered Saxon to pay the fine and costs at the rate of £200 per month.
