A 29-year-old offender has been fined £200 for being drunk and disorderly.

Andrew Arthur Rollinson admitted arguing with police as they tried to arrest a woman near the Royal George pub in Ramsey.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that officers were called to Market Place in Ramsey on August 29 at 11.05pm.

A woman was arrested and Rollinson was initially not involved, but was seen raising his middle finger to officers.

He then started shouting: ’We pay your wages, taxpayer money, embarrassing.’

He was described as smelling of alcohol, unsteady on his feet, and having glazed eyes.

Rollinson was given multiple opportunities to leave the scene but refused and said: ’I could roll a spliff here but I won’t.’

He eventually left the area but was later arrested.

Defence advocate John Wright said that his client had no previous convictions and pointed out that he had left the scene, but admitted he had been slow to do so.

’He accepts he has something to drink and his judgement was impaired,’ said the advocate.

’He doesn’t recall the incident.’

Magistrates also ordered Rollinson, who lives at Beach View Cottages, Ballure, to pay £50 prosecution costs.
