A man has been remanded in custody after being charged with strangling a dog to death.

Klaudiusz Grzesiak, 45, is charged with criminal damage to a dog and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. Grzesiak appeared before the High Bailiff on Friday when no plea was entered.

Milka, a red cocker spaniel, was found dead in a children’s shed in the garden of the family’s home in Ballacannell, Laxey, last Tuesday (November 19).

The dog was found by the defendant’s wife after the pet went missing.

Milka was found in the shed in a bundle wrapped in clear plastic and a black bag, the court heard.

A post mortem examination carried out on the dog confirmed the cause of death was strangulation to the front of the neck.

They were also injuries consistent with trauma to the dog’s back.

Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court that Mrs Grzesiak had received text messages about the dog following a verbal altercation with her husband the previous day (Monday November 18).

A bail application made by defence advocate Ian Kermode was refused and High Bailiff Jayne Hughes remanded the defendant in custody until today (Tuesday, November 26).
