A woman who stole £60 in cash from a handbag in the Manx Legion in Douglas has been fined £600.
Jennifer Jane Campbell pleaded guilty to theft and was also ordered to pay £60 compensation to the victim.
A second charge of theft of £170 from her mother, which she had pleaded not guilty to, was withdrawn by the prosecution after a statement was received from her mother saying that she did not wish to proceed with the matter.
Prosecuting advocate James Robinson told the court how the victim was in the Manx Legion on Market Hill in Douglas on July 21 at 1pm.
She went to the toilet and left her handbag on a chair.
While she was away Campbell, who is 51 and lives at Derby View in Castletown, took three £20 notes out of the woman’s purse in her handbag. CCTV footage captured the incident.
After being arrested Campbell admitted the offence.
Campbell has a previous conviction for theft in November 2019 when she received a suspended sentence after stealing a wallet containing £200 while working as a housekeeper at Comis Hotel at Mount Murray.
She also has a conviction for benefit fraud in 2015.
