A 56-year-old man was this week fined fined £600 after a row with his neighbour over a dog.

Andrew Thomas Falconer admitted common assault and provoking behaviour and was also ordered to pay £250 compensation to his neighbour.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court how, on September 20, a man reported being assaulted and verbally abused by Falconer, who lives at Close ny Mooragh, Ramsey.

The man said he had been dropping off his grandson at Hanley Villas car park on North Shore Road in Ramsey when a dog approached barking at the child.

He said he asked Falconer to put the dog on a lead but Falconer then barged into him and started shouting and swearing.

The victim said that Falconer pushed him and his son then came out to ask Falconer to leave.

However, he said Falconer responded by saying: ’You’re ****ing dead. This isn’t over.’

He was later arrested and during a police interview claimed that the victim had sworn at him first.

Falconer admitted pushing him but said he had been ’holding his ground’.

Ms Cubbon said that no injuries were caused and the assault had just amounted to barging.

A probation report said that Falconer had significant mental health issues and physical issues.

The report said that he ’may not take in the seriousness of how he can present to other people’.

Defence advocate Deborah Myerscough said that her client’s last conviction was in 2018.

’He has come a really long way since 2018,’ said the advocate.

’I don’t think that he sometimes recognises that his demeanour can be taken in a way that is a little upsetting.’

Ms Myerscough said that the two parties lived four doors apart and there had been no further incidents.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Falconer: ’You’re a big man and it must have been intimidating.’

He was fined £500 for the common assault and £100 for the provoking behaviour.

He must also pay £125 prosecution costs and will pay all amounts at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits.
