A 20-year-old student from Douglas has admitted an indecent assault after touching a woman’s breasts in a pub.

Joshua Thomas Mills admitted the offence while a second charge against him, of indecent exposure, was withdrawn.

He will be sentenced on March 22 after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that Mills, who lives at Hilltop View, was drinking at the Highwayman in Peel on August 21 last year from around 4pm.

As the night wore on Mills’ behaviour was described by staff as ’challenging’ as he tried to engage with a woman who said she was not interested.

At one point he touched her breasts over her clothing with the palms of his hands.

Mr Swain said that the incident had been brief but had caused the woman to push him away.

A formal complaint was made to police and Mills was arrested on August 23.

Defence advocate Jim Travers said that the prosecution facts were accepted and asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing.

Mr Travers said that his client had no previous convictions.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered that the probation report consider all sentencing options, including custody.

Bail continues in the sum of £500 with conditions not to enter the Highwayman pub, not to approach the victim and to co-operate with probation regarding the preparation of the report.
