A Douglas teenager has been given a 12-month conditional discharge after assaulting her house mate.

Brooke Leanne Skillicorn was said to have aimed kicks and punches at the other woman.

In court she pleaded guilty to common assault and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs by magistrates.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that police were called to a property in Springfield Road in Douglas on January 15 at 9.15pm.

A woman said she had been assaulted after asking Skillicorn to leave because she had become abusive.

She said that Skillicorn, who is 18, then threw kicks and punches at her which connected but did not cause any injuries other than scratching.

When officers arrived they found Skillicorn on the ground outside the property in a highly intoxicated state and she was subsequently arrested.

The teenager, who now lives in Tynwald Road, was interviewed at police headquarters and admitted that she had been drinking but said that her recollection was vague.

She claimed she could remember being dragged down stairs by her feet but could not recall a physical altercation or being arrested.

The court heard she has no previous convictions.

Defence advocate Paul Glover said: ’Ms Skillicorn was residing with the complainant at the time of the offence. She accepts the facts as presented but doesn’t remember much of the situation.

’She has been honest with the police about her recollection of the incident. There were no injuries, just marks and bruising.’

Skillicorn was said to be currently attending college.

Mr Glover asked the court to consider a conditional discharge, pointing out his client’s age, her lack of previous convictions, and that there had been no injuries caused.

’A conditional discharge would be a constant reminder she can’t behave like this or she’s going to be back before the court,’ said the advocate.

Magistrates ordered Skillicorn to pay the costs at a rate of £10 per week deducted from benefits.
