An Onchan woman who kicked a police officer has been fined £1,500.

Stephanie Howells, of Mount View Terrace, admitted the assault and must also pay £125 prosecution costs.

Magistrates heard that police were called to Howells’ address on August 22.

Her partner was said to have been arrested earlier and she threatened to self-harm if he was not released, but was described as intoxicated.

She was arrested due to welfare concerns, but then kicked out, striking an officer in the lower stomach.

Defence advocate James Peterson said that Howells had emailed the officer to apologise, and had underlying mental health issues, which were being addressed.

She agreed to pay the fine and costs at a rate of £25 per week.
