A Laxey woman who tried to sell stolen goods at CEX in Douglas has been fined £600.
Natalie Jane Bayle stole an Amazon Fire tablet from Manx Telecom and also tried to sell headphones which someone else had taken.
The 39-year-old appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood on August 18, admitting theft and handling stolen goods.
She was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
Prosecuting advocate Annie Bannister told the court that Bayle entered Manx Telecom’s store in Strand Street, Douglas, on June 13, at 1pm.
She took an Amazon Fire HD11 Max tablet, valued at £249.99, removed a security strip, and put the tablet into a Marks and Spencer bag she was carrying.
Bayle then left the shop without paying. At 1.20pm, another person, who was not yet before the court, entered the store and took a pair of Beats Studio Pro headphones, priced at £349.99, taking off the security strip and putting them into a Marks and Spencer bag, before leaving without paying.
Shortly later, Bayle arrived at CEX in Duke Street to sell them the tablet and headphones.
After Manx Telecom contacted CEX, Bayle was arrested.
When interviewed, she answered ‘no comment’ to all questions.
Defence advocate Ian Kermode said that the theft had been a spontaneous act with no pre-planning, and there had been no loss to Manx Telecom as the items had been recovered.
The advocate said that Bayle accepted she was passed the headphones and knew they were stolen.
‘She took them to CEX at the suggestion of the other person,’ said Mr Kermode.
He went on to say that Bayle’s last conviction was nine years ago and that she wanted to apologise to the court and to the retailers involved.
Bayle, of Glen Mooar, will pay at a rate of £20 per fortnight, deducted from benefits.
