A woman who kicked a police officer outside a nightclub has pleaded guilty to assault.

Sophie Michelle Susan Sinead Lane also admitted in court to being drunk and disorderly and will be sentenced on July 12 after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that Lane was initially involved in an altercation inside Bordello, a nightspot on Loch Promenade, Douglas, on March 27 at 3.20am.

As a result, the 26-year-old was ejected from the bar and police were called.

When officers arrived, Lane was said to be shouting and swearing outside.

She was subsequently arrested and taken to a police van.

However, she then kicked out, catching one of the officers above the eye with her heel.

The officer was said to have suffered swelling and reddening as a result of the kick.

The court heard that Lane, who lives at Ballacannell, Laxey, has no previous convictions.

Defence advocate Jane Gray entered a basis of plea on behalf of her client, in which Lane said she had not deliberately kicked the police officer and that her actions had been reckless.

Prosecutor Ms Braidwood said that this would not make a material difference to any sentence.

Ms Gray asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing and said that her client had a history of mental health issues.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said that she was satisfied that the basis of plea would not make a material difference to any sentence.

She ordered that the probation report consider all sentencing options, including custody.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions to live at her home address, to contact probation and co-operate with the preparation of the report, and not to leave the island without court consent.
