To mark International Women’s Day on Tuesday, Cycle 360 announced it would host the island’s first ever women’s only bike maintenance evening.

The event will teach female cyclists basic bike safety checks and maintenance, and will be held on Monday, April 4, at the company’s Business Park base.

The workshop is free of charge and will be a beginner’s course on maintaining bikes and repairing simple mechanical problems that may arise whilst out cycling on the road or on the trails.

Richard Cuffwright, Cycle 360’s workshop manager, said: ‘It is important to us at Cycle 360 that people feel confident and safe whilst out riding.

‘We often get riders telling us that the worry of getting a puncture or breaking their chain prevents them from riding alone or far from home.’

He added: ‘These mechanical issues are relatively simple fixes if you know how to do it and have the correct tools.

‘So, we want to teach riders these skills in a hands-on workshop in a friendly environment to ultimately encourage more people to get out on their bikes with confidence!’

Director Sacha Horsthuis explained the reasoning behind the women’s only event.

She said: ‘We have announced the first of our bike maintenance workshop evenings in response to the large number of female customers and riders attending our coffee club social rides expressing an interest in learning the basics of bike maintenance to give them the confidence when riding.

‘In the future, we aim to open this event up to a wider audience, but due to capacity we felt that we should give priority to female riders to attend this hands-on workshop experience in a non-elitist, informal environment.

‘We announced this event in association with International Women’s Day, but Cycle 360 will be putting on further bike maintenance workshops in the future if the demand is there for it.’

To go, register for a free ticket via Eventbrite.

The women who go can take their bike to practise on.
