After a hotly-contested competition, a doggedly-determined connoisseur of fast food walked away with the top prize and the trophy at the recent Isle of Man Food and Drink festival

Cheered on by a raucous crowd of lovers of fine cuisine, Darren Webb managed to wolf down five hot dogs in five minutes to claim the top spot in the hot dog-eating contest, beating off his fierce rivals to claim the top prize of 100 Hot Dogs and the coveted mustard-coloured yellow belt.

The 2020 champion narrowly emerged victorious ahead of a vaguely green-looking Sam Waugh, who he narrowly pipped to second place after Sam struggled to finish his final hot dog.

Also taking part was Caroline Towler, who managed three hot dogs, Ryan Cornelius, also on three and John Skelton who clearly preferred to savour the snack, managing to down only the one hot dog.

Darren, who came second in the same competition two years ago, vowed to be back next year to defend his title.

The competition was sponsored by Dave’s Delicious Dogs, who provided the hot dogs for the competition and the prize.
