A charity day, held in the memory of a great supporter of music and the arts, has raised over £1,000 for a youth music project.

The ’wear your old band T-shirt to work’ day, held on Friday, March 16, was held to commemorate the death of music promoter Jonno Gollow.

Friends, colleagues and music fans were encouraged to dig out their old favourite band t-shirts for the day, and to donate money to the Soundcheck Youth Music project, which Jonno was a great supporter of.

The cheque for £1,074 was handed over by the organiser of, Adrian Cowin, a former colleague of Jonno’s, to members of the project on Tuesday night.

The project officer for Soundcheck, Jenni Smith, said the charity day was a great way to remember Jonno, and that they would use the money to continue and build on Jonno’s legacy of supporting and promoting grass-roots music.

’Having this donation is great and means a lot to us, because Jonno helped us out so much,’ said Jenni.

’He was a big supporter of Soundcheck.

’It is great that people are able to recognise his passion and his legacy for wanting to help support music and also to help out the young people in the island who want to become more involved in playing and writing music.

Jenni said that the donation will allow them to hold more song writing and performing workshops, similar to the ones Jonno used to organise with his visiting musicians. ’They were incredibly useful and gave our members a lot of good, valuable knowledge and tips,’ she said.

’Also, the money will enable us to put on more events, concerts and recording projects in the future.’
