Staff at Cannan Court have been trained to use a new defibrillator that has been installed there.
The new equipment is not just for use by residents and staff but is also open as a resource for the community in Kirk Michael village.
An added bonus is the housing complex at Cannan Court has a warden on duty round the clock who is trained in its use.
Former MHK David Cannan, president of the Kirk Michael Community Housing Association, said: ’I am delighted to have this equipment installed. This isn’t only for the residents but for the whole community as well.
’The best part of having it at Cannan Court is that there is a warden on duty 24 hours a day and they have all had specialist training in using the equipment.’
The defibrillators are designed to be used by anyone, regardless of medical training because they provide recorded instructions to the operator. The equipment is generally stored in a secure box that can be accessed in an emergency using a code provided by the emergency services.
A number of new defibrillators have been installed around the island including two at Noble’s park and others at Shaw’s Brow, Douglas town hall, library and golf course. Many have been funded thanks to support from Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation.
