Firefighters were called out to a kitchen fire at a home in Port Erin.

A delivery driver dialled 999 after hearing a fire alarm on Friday morning.

Two firefighters in breathing apparatus checked the building to see if there was anyone inside.

They found that cooking had been left unattended in an oven.

The crew quickly isolated the gas and removed the burnt food.

Firefighters using thermal imaging cameras checked for any fire or build up of heat in the kitchen before using a positive pressure fan to remove smoke from the kitchen.

At 11.40pm that evening, crews from Douglas were mobilised to a commercial property where an automatic fire alarm had activated.

Smoke was discovered on the first floor. Two firefighters in breathing apparatus and using a thermal imaging camera located the source of the fire - a overheating battery back-up system was causing fumes to be given off.

The team isolated the power and ventilated the room of fumes.

In both incidents, activation of the automatic fire alarms gave early warning of a fire starting, prevented further damage to the properties.
