A Manx Electric Railway tram became derailed and crashed into a metal line post on a part of the track outside Ramsey.
Passengers had to be removed and put on a bus into the town.
Among them was Jamie Barrow, who described it as ’definitely an interesting first experience of the electric railway’.
Mr Barrow explained how it had been caused by a routine meeting of two trams, one of which’s brakes did not work effectively (which resulted in it ’overshooting’ the junction), and then became derailed when it had to reverse.
A spokesperson for Isle of Man Transport said: ’A tram suffered a mechanical fault around 1pm on Wednesday in the vicinity of Lewaigue.
’This caused some minor damage to overhead line fittings and services were stopped while repairs were undertaken. Transport was arranged for the affected passengers to complete their journey.
’The line was repaired promptly and services resumed.’
