The Southern Dippers are looking to make a splash in their 20th anniversary year.
It started out as a small fundraising idea formulated in the pub.
And the hardy group of folk in the south of the island will be notching up no fewer than 83 dips over their 20 year history this coming New Year’s Day 2021.
They start each year at Chapel Beach, then move on to Port St Mary inner harbour, Gansey Beach and the finale at Port Erin beach in fancy dress.
Each venue is near a hostelry for refreshments.
The proprietors have accommodated and supplirf hot drinks, soups, biscuits and in some cases cellophaned seats to sit on.
To date the Southern Dippers have raised just over £57,000 for many charities.
They have also been lucky to have several companies support them.
The charity for the 2021 Dips is Isle Listen, a charitable initiative that provides support and training in schools, the workplace and community.
The event organiser is still looking for sponsors interested in being associated with this now permanent fixture on the community calendar.
There are opportunities to sponsor each of the beaches, T-shirts, advertising in a limited edition booklet marking the event and prize money for fancy dress. Every penny goes directly to Isle Listen.
It will be the first time the Rushen and Western Mann Rotary Club will be helping with bucket collections at Port Erin. The anniversary will feature a booklet and as always, a fun video of the proceedings on the day.
Anyone with video footage and photos from over the 20 years and who would like to be credited if included, should send their files to event organiser Lenny Conroy at [email protected] or by mobile on 461245.
Dips take place all over the island on New Year’s Day.
