A doctor who’s concerned about the effects of 5G technology is to address two meetings in Douglas next week.

Dr Erica Mallery-Blyth, who believes the effects of radiofrequency radiation are harmful, will talk at a Positive Action Group meeting on Monday and at the Methodist Church on Loch Promenade the next day.

At Tuesday’s meeting, she will talk about WiFi and using technology safely in schools.

Parents, teachers, schools and nurseries and the members of the Department of Education, Sport and Culture have been invited to go. The event is being hosted by the pressure group 5G Aware IOM Association.

Its members are ’concerned that the current generation of children on the island will be the first to grow up with exposure to wireless man-made RF-EMFs - both in-utero and on a daily basis from birth onwards’.

The group is campaigning for the Isle of Man to adopt Resolution 1815 (2011) of the Parliamentary Council of Europe, which promotes a precautionary approach to wireless technology.

Its members would like all Manx nurseries, schools, colleges and libraries to use wired technology and limit the use of mobile phones.

They believe safety standards should be established and applied, because what they perceive as a ’serious legislative and regulatory gap in the system’.

They say no research is currently being carried out into the cumulative effects of multiple sources of emissions.

5G Aware IOM spokesperson Suzanne Young said: ’We are a group of concerned locals that have formed the 5G Aware IOM Association in an attempt to fill the gaps in knowledge and to lobby government. We have brought Dr Mallery-Blythe over to our island to speak to teachers, education leaders and also parents of our precious future generations.

’We are encouraging people to attend this presentation to learn more and have the chance to pose questions.’

As we have already reported, the PAG meeting will also be addressed by Prof Olle Johansson, who has described ’whole-body exposure to wireless mobile and WiFi communication radiation’ as ’the biggest full-scale biomedical experiment ever done to life on Earth’.

Public health director Dr Henrietta Ewart responded to concerns about 5G in May.

Then she said: ’5G will be regulated to comply with the ICNIRP guidelines. 5G does not mean that we will be exposed to higher or stronger levels of RF-EMF.

’When 5G is introduced, there may be a small increase in the overall level of radio signals due to the fact that new transmitters are active.

’Based on the transition from previous wireless technologies we can expect that the overall exposure levels will remain relatively constant and will continue to be a small fraction of the ICNIRP exposure guidelines.’
