A shop in Port Erin has raised more than £1,100 for a mental health charity.
The Co-op in Port Erin held raffles, cake sales and games over the Easter weekend, dressing up as superheroes or villains.
A total of £1,108 was donated for Isle Listen, a charity which aims to highlight the importance of mental health equal to physical health via a range of support services and training in the workplace, to families and within schools.
Claire Allen of Port Erin Co-op said: ’We usually raise money for Samaritans a few times during the year but we decided to raise money for a local charity. We’ve previously donated to the NHS, Foodbank UK and other charities but we wanted to keep the funds here this time.
’We did a Friday, Saturday and Sunday of fundraising, ensuring social distancing was in place with only four customers in the shop at one time. Some of our costumes didn’t arrive in time so some of us had to "wing it". We chose heroes and villains because we wanted to draw on the local heroes theme and we really enjoyed it.’
Ms Allen continued: ’We wanted to raise people’s morale too - with the way things are going and have been we found people’s moods were low and we wanted to cheer everyone up.’
