Pupils at Scoill Phurt le Moirrey have staged their own version of the parish walk to raise money for school funds.

Rescheduled to avoid bad weather in June, the walk took place around the grounds of Scoill Phurt le Moirrey.

Most of the pupils in reception to year six (aged five to 11) were involved in the event.

Armed with drinks and sun cream, and clad in PE kit and comfortable footwear, the pupils’ aim was to complete as many laps as they could, and gain money through sponsorship.

A school spokesman said: ’The money raised is to enhance outdoor learning areas for the benefit of the whole school.’

Refreshments were served and a cake stall, run by the school’s parent, teacher and friends’ association, proved popular allowing walkers to replace calories lost during their exertions.

Headteacher Ange Callaghan told parents: ’This has become a very popular and challenging annual event and we are sure the children enjoyed their afternoon.’

Money is still being collected so no final total was available at the time of going to press.
