St Ninian’s High School head teacher Andy Fox will retire in the summer after three decades at the school.

Head teacher at the Douglas school since 2009, his positions have included classroom teacher, head of year and department, curriculum manager and deputy head teacher at the former lower school site, Park Road.

He has witnessed major milestones in the school’s history over the past 32 years, including the demolition of Park Road and the opening of the purpose-built lower school at Bemahague.

In a letter to parents and carers of students, he said: ’I feel that I have been so lucky and privileged to have worked in such a fantastic school with so many positive and talented students as well as staff.

’There have been some difficult and sad times. However, overall I have to say that working at St Ninian’s has been a very positive experience for me and I hope it has been equally positive for the students, staff and the community.’

He said he was retiring for personal reasons revolving around his family.

Mr Fox thanked parents for the support he has received, saying: ’I have always been appreciative of the general help and positivity that our parents and community have shown.

’I am sure the school is moving forward and progressing in so many areas.’

Mr Fox has worked for 35 years in education. He trained at the City of Liverpool College of Higher Education, gaining a joint Honours Degree in history and geography followed by a Post Graduate Certificate in Education.

The DEC hopes to appoint his successor in March.
