Students and staff from Queen Elizabeth II High School’s basketball team will visit Manchester next month.

The school has organised for 20 students and three members of staff to go on the trip to watch British Basketball League team Manchester Giants play Plymouth Raiders, and take part in a training session with a Manchester Giants coach.

As part of sponsorship, which is part-funded by property development company Dandara, the students and staff have received personalised travel kit to wear on the trip.

Rebecca Dunne, who teaches PE at the Peel school, said: ’The students have worked exceptionally hard over the past couple of years and have demonstrated their commitment to the sport. Everyone is really looking forward to the trip, and I think the students are especially excited to watch a semi-professional game.

’As a school it is important to us to travel in matching apparel, not only in terms of safety and making the students easily identifiable, but also for the promotion of basketball at QEII High School and for the encouragement of team morale. We are therefore incredibly grateful to Dandara for sponsoring our travel kit, and supporting our school.’

Dandara marketing manager Angela Beresford said: ’It sounds like it’s going to be an action-packed few days, so I hope they have a great time and pick up some top tips from the semi-professional players.’
