The doors of University College Isle of Man (UCM) will be opened for those interested in considering to further their education.

Interactive demonstrations of robotics, catering, hairdressing, beauty therapy and more will be on show at the college’s open evening.

Staff will also guide visitors around the main campus to explore the different facilities and find out about the range of courses on offer at UCM.

The annual event, which is now in its fourth year, will take place on November 19 from 4pm to 7pm.

Jo Pretty, UCM’s principal, said: ’The open evening gives the public the chance not only to see what courses are available at UCM, but also to talk to our teaching and support staff who are ideally placed to offer information, advice and guidance about not only a subject area, but also future careers.

’Our staff are well placed to do this because of the substantial experience they have in the industries and sectors they are now preparing students for.’

The public will be able to see the college’s purpose-built construction and engineering workshops, IT and cybersecurity labs and refurbished creative arts studios.

They will also have the opportunity to tour its ’realistic working environments’, which are learning spaces that replicate workplace settings and are open to the public; these include the Annie Gill Café, Cristory’s Restaurant, Synnova Hair & Beauty Salon and Little Explorers Nursery.

Talks by Jo Richardson, vice principal of UCM, Geoff Chatwood, assistant principal of UCM, and Lorna Trevethan, member of the Employment and Skills Committee for the Chamber of Commerce, will be given.
