Members of one of the island’s youth clubs have been given a dedicated room within their school where their club activities and meetings can take place.
The club had previously been given space to operate in the school but the club’s success and popularity means it will now benefit from having a room of its own.
The Youth Den was officially opened by Ann Corlett, MHK, representing the island’s youth service.
After cutting the ribbon, Mrs Corlett said: ’It’s great to see facilities within our schools like this one, supporting all the good work done by the service. We need to make sure that this work is as widely promoted as it can be, so that as many of our young people as possible can benefit from it.’
Laxey and Lonan Junior Youth Club is for children in school years 4, 5 and 6, aged eight to 11.
Age groups are split up in to two groups with alternate sessions on Friday nights and activities include arts and crafts, sport and games.
The Youth Service runs around 30 youth clubs across the island, an outdoor education centre, an emotional support service in all secondary schools and drop-in cafés in Onchan and Douglas.
