Former director of education Geoff Moorcroft has been appointed to a new cross department research role.

Department of Education, Sport and Culture interim chief executive Graham Kinrade informed staff across DESC of Mr Moorcroft’s new role in an email last week.

He started his new position, director of education and research projects for DESC, on Monday this week.

Mr Kinrade’s email said: ’Geoff’s new role will involve him working across government departments, third sector organisations and the community to work together in a way that provides the best support for children and young people on our island.

’In particular, he will lead on the review and development of the Isle of Man’s Strategy for Children and Young People in collaboration with other stakeholders.

’Geoff’s looking forward to the challenges his new role will present and continuing to support the department’s work in these areas.’

The reorganisation of DESC comes after the Beaman’ report, which revealed a ’fractured’ relationship between the department and its teaching staff.

One of the recommendations of the Beamans report was to separate out some of the functions of the role of director of education, a position then occupied by Mr Moorcroft(pictured).

Beamans said the role as currently set out, which sees him as line manager to 37 head teachers, the college principal and five school improvement advisers, made ’no sense from an organisational, management or governance perspective’.
