A group of humanists, atheists and agnostics has donated books to Manx schools.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, children’s novelist and poet Michael Rosen and author Philip Pullman have have all contributed to the book called ’What Is Humanism? How do you live without a god?’

This is the first book of its kind, which has been designed with children in mind.

It is a part of a campaign run by the British Humanist Association in which Isle of Man Freethinkers recently delivered copies of ’What Is Humanism?’ to every primary school on the island for use by teachers and children.

The book explains the principles of humanism through personal accounts and argues that you can have morality without religion.

Stuart Hartill, chair of Isle of Man Freethinkers, said: ’We were very pleased to be able to buy and distribute these books because we think it is important for children to appreciate humanism as well as studying all the religions of the world.

’Children ask lots of questions about the way people live and this book helps them seek out some answers for themselves.’
