The government is reminding parents of children who will start primary school in 2021 to register them with a school by January 31, to help make the transition ’smooth and enjoyable’.

Nurseries and playgroups share consented information with schools to ’help support each child when they start at their new school’.

Education Minister Dr Alex Allinson said: ’Starting school is an exciting time and I encourage parents to register their children to help make it as seamless and enjoyable as possible.’

Parents can find out which schools are available to them online by entering their postcode at: www.gov.im/maps/, or by contacting the DESC on 685820.

A letter with accompanying information will be sent to all parents who have registered their children at school either via their nursery or playgroup, or to their home address in the New Year.

It will include links to the department’s primary school admission policy and guidance.

The government stated that: ’Any parent considering delaying their child’s start to school or whose child will not be educated in a department school in 2020/21 must contact the department.

’Any parent considering delaying their child’s start to school as they have a summer birthday, or whose child will not be educated in a government-run school in 2020/21 must contact the department.
