The head of history at Ramsey Grammar School has said students have recognised the benefit of their TT walk challenge.

During sessions spread out over the course of a week, students at the school’s Student Services and Support (SS&S) walked the equivalent distance of the TT course - 37.7 miles- around the school field.

They were raising money for SS&S resources and educational visits, such as the Forest School.

Andrew Wilkinson, head of history, told the Manx Indepent: ’The walks began on Monday morning and have continued every lesson since, with a motivating system created that for every mile (three and a half laps) the students receive a bead, which represents their achievement.

’When talking to the students who have been actively taking part in the challenge on Friday, it was visible that the idea has been very well received as a positive way to socialise and exercise, whilst ultimately resulting in a good cause.

’The students admitted the mix of fresh air and walking has made them feel healthier, and the opportunity to work as part of a whole team has increased communication, allowing both students and teachers to get to know one another better.’

He also praised the impact it has had on the department, saying it has helped forge a stronger ’community spirit’ within it and the wider school.
