A classic Broadway musical is being brought to Manx audiences by students at St Ninian’s High School.

A cast of 30 pupils from the secondary school have been performing Annie Jr this week with small performances to local primary schools and four full shows for the public’s entertainment.

Ealish Creer and Kasia Ashton share the big role of Annie, an orphan who escapes a miserable life at an orphanage and eventually finds a home with wealthy industrialist, Oliver ’Daddy’ Warbucks .

Assistant head teacher, Angela Daugherty, said: ’Annie Jr is such a hugely successful Broadway hit and we are particularly thrilled to have some amazingly talented individuals ranging from Year 7 all the way through to Year 13 who just seemed right for this ambitious choice.

’It is a show that includes some of the best-known songs and characters and we knew that our students would thoroughly enjoy creating this musical in school.’

She added: ’There is something for everyone in this production. There are some very entertaining numbers, some emotional scenes, and we have an 11-year-old labrador making his stage debut!

’Along with ice creams in the interval, this promises to be a highly entertaining and exciting production.’

Like the song, tomorrow (Friday) is the last opportunity to catch the show. Doors open at 6.30pm at St Ninian’s Lower School in Bemahague, Onchan. Tickets - available at the school office - are £5 for adults and £3 for under-18s.
