Pupils at Kewaigue School have received a number of interactive display panels after they won a technology competition.
The new ActivPanel display was installed in the Year 5 (aged nine and 10) classroom after they won a national competition run by global education technology company Promethean.
The Promethean ’Classroom Stories’ competition aimed to encourage schools to share experiences that demonstrate passion, innovation, and imagination by sharing a video telling their inspiring story and the impact it has had on their classrooms, school, or community.
Headteacher Adrian Shorthouse said: ’The opportunity to increase the number of interactive display panels in our school is very welcome.
’These industry-leading interactive classroom displays enable the teachers to use a variety of digital teaching tools and techniques that help immerse the children in a range of learning experiences.
’This continued investment in digital technologies is an exciting feature of our new school vision for the years ahead.’
He added: ’I am very proud of the children who told the story of how we work with our community in the video they produced, that led to this success.
’I am also very grateful to Promethean for recognising one of the strengths of our school and helping us invest in this technology which will be key to learning at Kewaigue School.’
Hannah Lewis, class teacher at the school, which is on the outskirts of Douglas, said: ’I really enjoyed this opportunity to work alongside my class to create this classroom story of our school.
’The children worked so hard from creating a script, to working in front and behind the camera and finally editing and creating the final product.
’When we told the children we had won one of the panels they just couldn’t believe it they were speechless!
’It was wonderful that all our hard work and efforts to tell our story of how we are making a difference in the community had been recognised and rewarded.
’Now the news has settled the children and I are very excited to make active use of the panel in our classroom.’
Jim Wallis, from Promethean, added: ’We would like to congratulate Kewaigue School on their fantastic entry into the Classroom Stories competition.
’Promethean is always excited to celebrate positivity in education, and this is a wonderful example of how creativity and ambition in the classroom should be rewarded.
’We can’t wait to see how Kewaigue School engages with their ActivPanel over the festive period and beyond.’
